Court backlogs impacting on access to justice

The BBC recently reported that the backlog in hearings for court cases is impacting upon victims of crime.

‘Please don’t forget us’: Coronavirus adds to court cases backlog https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53238163

We often meet with clients who have had life changing injuries as a consequence of violent crimes. What they have endured is traumatic to say the least and part of the recovery process is to reach a point of conclusion so that victims can start to rehabilitate. The trial dates and the prospect of seeing their assailant brought to justice is often motivational and inspires them to seek and bring a claim for compensation for their injuries.

The current situation can therefore be detrimental to the victim’s health, particularly from a psychological perspective but there are still positive and proactive steps that they can still take. They don’t have to wait for the trial to be completed to start the claims process.

If you have been the victim of a violent crime and want to claim compensation then please call SHU Law on 0114 2256666.
